ENGLISH DESCRIPTION The years that defined a life and an idea of homeland. In this second volume of Lázaro Cárdenas: A 20th-Century Mexican, we read about the central period in the life of the General: the part that transformed Mexico and launched it into history. The years of his term (1934-1940) and his assignment as Secretary of National Defense-during World War II, no less-are analyzed in rigorous, agile prose by Ricardo Pérez Montfort, who disproves myths about the man from Michoacán, the oil expropriation, his vision of politics, and his existence after the presidency. In this way, volume 2 of Cárdenas del Río´s most well-documented biography presents the essential coordinates to understand modern-day Mexico, and its struggles and contradictions.
